Abrigo do Lagar Velho - Lapedo
Description
O sítio localiza-se na margem esquerda da Ribeira da Carrasqueira (também conhecida por Ribeira da Caranguejeira e do Sirol). A parte superior da sequência estratigráfica foi removida durante uma terraplanagem realizada no início dos anos 90. Um testemunho destes primeiros depósitos ficou conservado no interior de uma reentrância profunda da parede de trás do abrigo. Com cerca de 60 cm de espessura, este depósito pendurado cerca de 2 m acima da superfície atual do solo contém vestígios estratigrafados de ocupações do Proto-Solutrense, do Solutrense inferior e do Solutrense médio. A terraplanagem expôs uma superfície de ocupação do Paleolítico Superior inicial. … O sítio localiza-se na margem esquerda da Ribeira da Carrasqueira (também conhecida por Ribeira da Caranguejeira e do Sirol). Com cerca de 60 cm de espessura, este depósito pendurado cerca de 2 m acima da superfície atual do solo contém vestígios estratigrafados de ocupações do Proto-Solutrense, do Solutrense inferior e do Solutrense médio. A terraplanagem expôs uma superfície de ocupação do Paleolítico Superior inicial. Junto à parede, na extremidade Leste do abrigo, foi descoberta e escavada uma sepultura infantil. O esqueleto encontrava-se em conexão anatómica, com excepção da cabeça, fragmentada pela terraplanagem, e do antebraço, mão e pé direitos, cujos ossos se encontravam soltos no interior de uma toca que perturbou a estreita faixa de sedimentos que separava o corpo da parede. Os ossos da criança e as terras situadas no interior da fossa sepulcral encontravam-se tingidas de ocre vermelho. Na zona do pescoço foi recolhida uma concha perfurada de Littorina obtusata. Ao longo do ombro e braço direito e junto aos pés, o contorno da fossa sepulcral encontrava-se marcado por uma série de ossos de herbívoro de médio porte (veado?) que poderão ter constituído oferendas funerárias. A anatomia do maxilar inferior e o estado de desenvolvimento da dentição indicam que se trata de um indivíduo de tipo moderno com uma idade estimada em cerca de 4 anos. Corresponde à mais antiga ocupação identificada até ao momento no Abrigo do Lagar Velho, numa altura em que o sítio é utilizado como espaço funerário, e data de há aproximadamente 29 000 anos - período Gravetense (a data apresentada foi calibrada (cal BP, Before Present) e reporta a anos de calendário). O sitio foi localizado nas prospeções do ano 1998 no âmbito do PNTA "A Pré-História do Maciço Calcário das Serras d`Aire e Candeeiros e bacias de drenagem adjacentes", e posteriormente os trabalhos arqueológicos relacionados com o sítio Abrigo do Lagar Velho foram realizados no âmbito do PNTA "O Paleolítico da Gruta do Almonda e a Extinção dos Neandertais Ibéricos". Atualmente existem trabalhos de investigação em curso, que foram retomados em 2018, e até à data foram realizadas campanhas em 2018, 2019, 2021 e 2022. Em 2013 o Abrigo do Lagar Velho foi classificado como Monumento Nacional pelo Decreto-Lei nº 17/2013 de 24 de Junho (DR, 1ª Série, nº 119) e o Vale do Lapedo como Zona Especial de Proteção (ZEP) pela Portaria n.º 630/2013 de 20 de Setembro (DR, 2ª Série, nº 182). Em abril de 2020, foi aprovada, pela Direção-Geral do Património Cultural, a proposta de candidatura para classificação, como Tesouro Nacional, do esqueleto da "Criança do Lapedo" e artefactos e ecofactos associados ao seu ritual fúnebre (Anúncio nº 87/2020 - Diário da República, 2ª série, nº 75, 16 de abril). Como forma de permitir a compreensão do sítio arqueológico e da área envolvente, foi criado o Centro de Interpretação do Abrigo do Lagar Velho (CIALV), inaugurado a 5 de janeiro de 2008. Localizado num terreno sobranceiro ao vale, no lugar de Lapedo, tem como objetivo principal dar a conhecer os resultados da investigação realizada no sítio arqueológico do Abrigo do Lagar Velho e a sua contextualização na história da evolução humana. A área de exposição desenvolve-se em dois módulos. O primeiro módulo contempla uma pequena exposição dedicada à vida no Paleolítico Superior, com o respetivo enquadramento cronológico e diacrónico dos artefactos e ecofactos expostos, descobertos no sítio arqueológico, bem como da paisagem, fauna e flora do Vale do Lapedo. O segundo módulo é centrado na descoberta do "Menino do Lapedo", explicando-se os particularismos do seu enterramento, o seu ritual fúnebre e a problemática da morfologia do seu esqueleto.
Archaeological Findings
Indústria lítica (lascas e esquírolas), fauna (dentes, mandíbulas e epífises de herbívoros como veado, cavalo e coelho), esquírolas de osso, madeira carbonizada e seixos estalados pelo fogo muito abundantes no testemunho Proto-Solutrense e Solutrense. Enterramento do Paleolítico superior inicial.
